Our Story
Urgent Care EMS (UCEMSRT) was founded on a simple belief: no child should be held back because they lack access to basic necessities.
Our journey began in West Virginia when we recognized a challenge facing educators across the state. Every year, teachers spend hundreds—and often thousands—of dollars from their own pockets to provide classroom supplies for their students. Many educators reported spending between $500 and $1,500 annually on items such as notebooks, pencils, paper, art supplies, hygiene products, snacks, and other classroom essentials simply to ensure their students had what they needed to learn.
In response, UCEMSRT was created to support teachers and students by providing free school supplies and educational resources. What started as a grassroots effort focused on helping classrooms quickly grew as teachers began sharing the deeper challenges their students and families were facing.
As we worked alongside schools, we discovered that many students were arriving at school without adequate clothing, proper shoes, hygiene items, or reliable access to food. Educators were doing everything they could to meet these needs, often using their own limited resources to help struggling families.
The requests for assistance continued to grow.
Families needed more than school supplies. They needed food. They needed hygiene products. They needed clothing. They needed emergency support during evenings, weekends, school breaks, and times of crisis when traditional resources were unavailable.
Rather than turning those families away, UCEMSRT expanded its mission.
Over time, our organization evolved from a school-supply initiative into a comprehensive community support network dedicated to meeting immediate needs while preserving dignity and hope. We added programs that provide food assistance, clothing, shoes, hygiene products, emergency resources, youth outreach services, and family support programs throughout West Virginia.
While our services have expanded, our commitment to education remains at the heart of everything we do. Today, UCEMSRT continues to provide free school supplies and educational resources to teachers and students while also addressing the barriers that often prevent children from succeeding in the classroom.
We understand that a student cannot fully focus on learning when they are hungry, lack clean clothing, need basic hygiene items, or face instability at home. By addressing these challenges, we help create an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
What began as a small effort to support teachers has grown into a statewide mission driven by volunteers, community partners, supporters, and dedicated leaders who believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed.
Today, UCEMSRT stands as a bridge between resources and need, providing school supplies, food, clothing, shoes, hygiene products, and critical support services to children, families, and communities across West Virginia.
As we continue to grow, our vision remains clear: strengthening students, supporting families, and building healthier, more resilient communities—one person, one family, and one classroom at a time.
